Sergey Tsivilev, Governor of Kuzbass, and Oleg Matytsin, Minister of Sports of Russia, met the athletes of the Kuzbass team who are taking part in the 2nd Winter Children of Asia International Sports Games. Oleg Matytsin thanked the Kuzbass Region for its hospitality and highlighted the excellent way the event is organized.
“Kuzbass has already made a true miracle: organizing such a huge competition in these hard times. Today, your region truly is a strong cementing link of Russia. Last year it hosted the Russia, Sports State forum, and now you are welcoming the Children of Asia Games. I wish you good luck, happiness, joy of sports, and pride for your home region”, said the Head of the Ministry of Sports of Russia.
This year, the regional team is competing independently, not as part of the Siberian Federal District.
“To all our guests, we would like to demonstrate our athlete training system based on the best Soviet examples: from a yard coach to all-year-round training facilities and world-class centers. Our objective is to make every person in the region do sports and lead a healthy and active lifestyle”, noted Sergey Tsivilev.
The Kuzbass regional team includes 136 people. Some athletes are already competing in other venues. In Novokuznetsk, the ice hockey team of Kuzbass is competing for the playoffs. In Tashtagol, the freestyle competitions have finished today; in the girls’ tournament, Maria Bugayevskaya won the first gold medal for Kuzbass in ski cross.
“I am sure that you will remember these competitions for your whole life. Of course we are competing to win, but any contest, any competition should always end with friendship, this is the purpose of everything. I wish you success, good luck and to find new friends here”, Sergey Tsivilev addressed the young athletes.
Dmitriy Podolskiy, snowboarder from Tashtagol, candidate master of sports, made a response speech from the Kuzbass regional team. The athlete said, “We are grateful for your support, and we will do our best to perform decently and to win prizes. Kuzbass is the champion!”
To conclude the meeting, Governor Sergey Tsivilev handed the flag of Kuzbass with autographs of the athletes to Oleg Matytsin, Minister of Sports of Russia. The flag will be stored in the Museum of Sports in Moscow.
